- Always ensure that the work area is always clean to avoid any hazards. E.g. slipping over spilt chemicals.
-Do not eat or drink in the dark room.
-Do not store the chemicals on the floor.
-Once you are in the dark room, make sure that it is well ventilated. You can do so by turning on the fan so you are not inhaling chemicals.
-Store the chemicals in areas where there will be less chance of spillage of the chemicals.
-Label all containers, keep them covered when not in use (and trays).
-Always wash your hands every time you are in the dark room or come in contact with chemicals. Hands should be washed with warm water and soap.
-Do not get rid or spill any chemicals down the sink.
-Always make sure to separate wet and dry areas.
-Keep a spill kit in the dark room.
-Keep the chemicals away from the dry areas.
COSHH is the law that requires employers to control substances that are hazardous to health. You can prevent or reduce workers exposure to hazardous substances by:
-finding out what the health hazards are;
-deciding how to prevent harm to health
-providing control measures to reduce harm to health;
-making sure they are used ;
-keeping all control measures in good working order;
-providing information, instruction and training for employees and others;
-providing monitoring and health surveillance in appropriate cases;
-planning for emergencies.
-Most businesses use substances, or products that are mixtures of substances. Some processes create substances. These could cause harm to employees, contractors and other people.
